Red Slat screens lights up IBA Business Academy

Alux has delivered and installed 10,000 meters of Slat screens at IBA Business Academy in Kolding. The red slats in three shades give the building a very special character and at the same time have a sun-shielding effect.

With the Kolding River on one side and the vibrant cityscape on the other, IBA Business Academy is located. In the beautiful surroundings, the more than 10,000 students are greeted by the architecturally beautiful red building, which with its distinctive and special character stands out in the Jutland port city.

We have delivered and installed 10,000 meters of Slat screens on the building. We used 30 tons of aluminum for the two-part box slats and installed them over four months in 2019.

The unique play of colors

In collaboration with the architectural firm Kjaer & Richter A/S, the red slats in three shades were chosen for the excellent building.

The variegated look gives the building a unique character and the play of colors is rarely seen. The facade lamellas consist of three shades of red, which are placed without an actual pattern.

Our project manager, Ole Eeg, describes the effect of this:

''It really elevates the building. Usually we only operate in one color, but it gives the building a special touch, which we are very happy with.

The appearance of the facade louvres is the main reason for the choice, but they also have a solar shading effect when the sun shines on the large glass sections.

A fruitful collaboration

Throughout the process, we have worked closely with architects Kjaer & Richter.

Brian Mikkelsen from the architectural firm says about the collaboration with Alux:

''We had a really good sparring with Alux throughout the process. It is a difficult art to install so many slats, so it required a lot of sparring, which Alux managed very well. They came up with a number of good suggestions on how to get the project to the finish line.

He is also pleased with the variegated color scheme and the final result:

''It's an idea we had from the very beginning. It gives a nice play of colors with a lot of nuances, and it goes well with the red concrete behind it. It's a solution we're very happy with architecturally.

He also adds that they would love to work with Alux in the future.
